Summary
The HOT Basketball Pep Band was created to perform during the basketball season at USF. With attendance at all men’s and women’s home games, the basketball band provides encouragement and support. The basketball band has also made trips to conference tournaments with the team to continue the USF fan support. Members of the basketball Pep Band are enrolled in a pep band class (MUN 1100) and receive a stipend for their time and expenses. Students will select to be in either the mens or womens pep bands. Basketball band is a spring semester obligation.

BAND PLACEMENT
Members are placed in Men’s or Women’s band based on the following criteria:
- Years in Pep Band
- Years in HOT Band
- Show Band member preference
- Show Band sub preference
- Draw Straws
Members may trade bands (before the season begins) with approval from the Director.
GRADE
Grade is based solely on attendance at performances. You may miss THREE performances with a sub. Any performance you miss without a sub will count as TWO absences. For absence 4-7, you will lose one letter grade for each absence (even if you have a sub). Once you miss 5 games, you will lose the stipend and drop to the bottom of the trip seniority list. See the chart below:
MENS BAND (16 Games)
Absence 1, 2 & 3 = A
Absence 4 = B
Absence 5 = C (NO STIPEND)
Absence 6 = D
Absence 7+ = F
WOMEN’S BAND (18 Games)
Absence 1, 2, 3, 4 = A
Absence 5 = B
Absence 6 = C (NO STIPEND)
Absence 7 = D
Absence 8 = F
SUBS
You can sub for your instrument only. Subs will come from the other Pep Band, no exceptions. If you can verify that you contacted EVERY member from the other band with at least 48 HOURS NOTICE, your absence will be counted as a ‘normal’ absence. You are expected to serve as a sub for as many times as you have used a sub.
TRAVEL
Post-season travel is very likely. Please see the schedule for dates, you are expected to be available. If you are selected for travel, all expenses (airfare, hotel, per diem) will be paid for by Athletics. All trips are ‘open-ended’, the date we leave is set but the date we return is based on the success of the team. Travel selection will be based on the following:
